News Synopsis

Hyundai India has introduced the highly anticipated Creta Electric, marking the brand's entry into the electric SUV market with a price range between ₹17.99 lakh and ₹23.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The Creta Electric is positioned as a strong contender in the Indian EV segment, competing with rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. Let’s dive into the key aspects of this new electric vehicle from Hyundai.

Design and Features of the Hyundai Creta Electric

The Creta Electric retains the familiar styling of its petrol and diesel counterparts, maintaining its iconic sleek headlamps and daytime running lights (DRLs). However, the electric version has several design updates that distinguish it from the traditional models. The front now features a sealed grille, a charging port adorned with the Hyundai emblem, and a newly designed bumper equipped with active air flaps to enhance battery cooling and overall aerodynamics.

In terms of wheel design, the Creta Electric sports a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels, and buyers can choose from a selection of eight monotone color options or two dual-tone variants.

Inside the cabin, the layout is similar to the internal combustion engine (ICE) Creta, but with added modern features. The three-spoke steering wheel has been redesigned for a more contemporary feel, and the vehicle includes a fully digital instrument panel for a more advanced display experience. Additionally, there is a new touchscreen infotainment system with updated software to improve usability and performance. The upholstery inside the cabin is designed in light colors, giving the interior a more premium and spacious feel.

On the safety front, the Creta Electric is well-equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ensuring a secure and comfortable driving experience. The SUV is available in four different trims: Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence, catering to various customer needs.

Battery Options and Range of the Hyundai Creta Electric

The Hyundai Creta Electric comes with two battery configurations, offering consumers flexibility depending on their driving needs.

  1. The 42 kWh battery offers a 390 km range on a single charge, ideal for daily commutes and short trips.

  2. The 51.4 kWh battery offers a more extended 473 km range, catering to those who require a larger range for longer journeys.

Both battery options support DC fast charging, allowing for a 10-80% charge in just 58 minutes, making it convenient for those who need a quick boost while on the go. For home charging, the Creta Electric offers an optional 11 kW Smart Connected Wall Box charger, which can fully charge the battery in approximately 4 hours.

Hyundai’s EV Push and Charging Infrastructure Expansion

As part of its vision to promote sustainable mobility, Hyundai Motor India is also focusing on building a robust EV infrastructure. The company plans to set up 600 public fast charging stations across the country over the next seven years, which will help in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.

Currently, over 50 fast charging stations have already been installed across key cities and national highways, with more to come as part of Hyundai’s long-term EV strategy.

Unsoo Kim, MD of Hyundai Motor India, shared his vision at the Auto Expo, stating, “We are building a robust EV ecosystem to encourage wider EV adoption, and our plans to set up 600 public fast charging stations across India in the next 7 years will play a significant role in this mission.”

Conclusion: Hyundai Creta Electric as a Game Changer

With the launch of the Hyundai Creta Electric, the Indian market now has access to an advanced and affordable electric SUV. Its competitive pricing, range options, modern features, and Hyundai’s commitment to building a strong EV ecosystem make it an attractive option for Indian consumers. As the EV infrastructure grows, the Creta Electric will play a key role in shaping the future of electric mobility in India.
