News Synopsis

Mumbai is a busy city and has many small, congested areas that are prone to fire. The fire brigade of the city noticed a 40% rise in the number of fires in the city. Since there are many areas that are a bit too congested for the fire trucks to make their way in, the response time of the fire brigade takes a back seat. To battle this problem, BMC has decided to invest in 24 fire bikes that can easily go into congested areas such as slums, etc., and quickly douse the fire.

Fire bikes are great for big and busy cities like Mumbai because it is hard for big firetrucks to make their way through traffic. The fire bikes will have a water tank, a water pipe, a hose reel, and a pump. Since bikes cannot carry heavy tanks, they can only carry around 40 liters. Therefore they’ll only be used to put out small fires. These bikes will cost around 2.76 crores in total. These bikes will also have GPS to navigate through the busy streets. Currently, these fire bikes are under testing and if they turn out to be a success, maybe then other cities can also invest in these bikes. Since Indian cities are full of small, crammed lanes, it is tough for a gigantic fire truck to make its way to the scene fast.
