A total of 173 million spam posts and 2.3 million violent and graphics content have been deleted from these apps owned by Meta. META has taken this action in the month of July under the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Conduct) Rules 2021. Meta has said in its statement that 25 million Facebook posts and 2 million Instagram posts have been removed in the month of July.
On Facebook, 1.1 lakh such posts have been removed that were spreading hatred. Apart from this, 27 lakh posts were nude and sexual content. Meta has said that 9 lakh posts related to self-harm and suicide have been deleted. 22,000 hate speeches and 3.7 lakh nude and sexual content have been removed on Instagram. It is worth noting that under the IT Rules 2021, all social media companies submit such reports to the government every month. In July, Meta received 626 complaints from Facebook and 1,033 from Instagram. Facebook has processed 603 reports out of 626. Instagram has said that it has resolved 945 complaints.
By supplying the necessary tools, Facebook's 603 reports have been resolved. Nine of the 23 unresolved complaints have been addressed in accordance with the company's policy. Tools have been used in 945 instances on Instagram to help users with their problems. Aside from this, 35 of the remaining 88 reports have had something done to them. To prevent hate speech and spam from appearing on social media sites, the central government has established severe regulations. The businesses connected to social media must comply with these rules.
