On Wednesday, exports of Hydrofluorocarbons that are typically used in refrigeration and air conditioners have been restricted by the Central Government. The Union Government took this decision to increase the availability of HFCs in the Indian Market. From now on, Exporters will require to obtain permission from the government if they wish to export Hydrofluorcarbons out of the country. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade released a notification informing about this. The notification states: "Export policy of hydrofluorocarbons has been revised from free to restricted category with immediate effect, and export authorizations would be issued on NOC (No Objection Certificate) from MoEF and CC (Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change)." This decision is also significant because the Government has recently extended a Rs 6,238-crore PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) scheme for white goods to increase the manufacturing of components and sub-assemblies of ACs and LED lights. A couple of weeks ago, in another decision, the Central Government also imposed a ban on the import of HFCs to boost the domestic production of the chemical. It also said that those who want to import the chemical will need to get permission from the concerned Government authorities.
