German luxury automaker BMW has officially entered India's burgeoning electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its groundbreaking CE 04 scooter. Positioned as a premium offering, the CE 04 is a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU) that promises to redefine urban commuting with its sleek design, advanced technology, and impressive performance.
"The all-new BMW CE 04 marks the beginning of a new era of electric mobility for BMW Motorrad India," declared Vikram Pawah, President and Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group India. He extolled the scooter's urban appeal, highlighting its "quiet, quick and agile" nature that transforms city streets into a thrilling playground.
The BMW CE 04 is a visual stunner, characterized by a harmonious blend of smooth curves and sharp edges. The low-slung silhouette, floating seat, and exposed technical components create a futuristic aesthetic that is both eye-catching and functional. The scooter's practicality is evident in thoughtful design elements such as a side-loading helmet compartment and a seamlessly integrated charging port.
At the heart of the CE 04 is a potent liquid-cooled permanent magnet electric motor that delivers 42 horsepower. This enables the scooter to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, while a top speed of 120 km/h ensures effortless highway cruising. The high-efficiency lithium-ion battery provides a commendable range of 130 km, making it suitable for daily commutes and longer city excursions.
The BMW CE 04 is brimming with cutting-edge technology. A 10.25-inch color TFT display with split-screen functionality and Bluetooth connectivity keeps riders connected and informed. Other notable features include keyless ride, a convenient reversing aid, Automatic Stability Control (ASC) for enhanced safety, and three selectable riding modes (ECO, Rain, and Road) to adapt to various riding conditions.
The BMW CE 04 commands a premium price tag of Rs 14,90,000 (ex-showroom) and will be available in select metropolitan cities across India starting from September 2024.
The BMW CE 04 is a bold statement of intent from the German luxury automaker as it enters the Indian electric two-wheeler market. With its futuristic design, impressive performance, and advanced technology, the CE 04 is poised to redefine urban mobility for discerning riders. While its premium price tag positions it as a luxury product, the CE 04's unique blend of style, sustainability, and innovation is likely to appeal to those seeking a distinctive and eco-conscious commuting option.
As the electric vehicle landscape in India continues to evolve, the CE 04's success will be closely watched as it sets a new benchmark for premium electric scooters.
