Ather to Set up Fast Charging Stations in Karnataka

News Synopsis

The electric two-wheeler maker, Ather Energy and Electric Supply Companies (ESCOMs) of Karnataka have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for setting up 1,000 fast-charging stations for electric two-wheelers across the state.

The ESCOMs would be the key agency for providing all the technical support and government agencies will coordinate with them to share the available space for the charging stations. The MoU was signed by the Managing Director, CEO and co-founder of Ather Energy and the Managing Director of BESCOM.

The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitaraman has also announced the government’s plans to bring a battery swapping policy in order to promote electric vehicles in India. The finance minister stated that the private sector will be encouraged to set up sustainable business models for batteries or energy. It will improve efficiency in the EV ecosystem.
