Apple announced upgrades to a number of its products during a live-streamed event on Tuesday. The company also introduced an addition to its desktop lineup, The Mac Studio.
The new Mac Studio desktop computer joins Apple's line of personal computers between the Mac Mini and the giant Mac Pro. Like almost all other Apple-made products, the new device will feature an Apple-made chip. The chip is a transition that the company has been working on for several years.
MacStudio has an M1 Max chip and can be made even more powerful by upgrading to the newly introduced M1 Ultra chip. Apple says the chip provides "faster performance than the best PC GPU available."
The base-level Mac Studio starts at $1,999 and comes with the M1 Max, and the Mac Studio with the new M1 Ultra chip starts at the price of $3,999. The more expensive Mac Studio comes with extra memory storage and with a few extra ports.
The Mac Studio resembles the Mac Mini-albeit double or more the height of Apple’s entry-level desktop computer. The Mac Studio is available for pre-booking and is scheduled to launch on March 18.
