While we eagerly await the iOS 18 updates, Apple has announced that it will not release all new features simultaneously. The tech giant is opting for a gradual rollout strategy to introduce Apple Intelligence to its users.
One significant aspect of these staggered releases is the revamped Siri. Reports indicate that many Apple Intelligence features, including the new Siri capabilities, may not be available until 2025 for those not testing the beta version this year.
At the WWDC 2024 keynote last week, Apple outlined a roadmap that stretches into late 2024 and the first half of 2025, rather than promising all features at the iOS 18 launch in September.
During WWDC, a demonstration highlighted Siri's ability to determine a flight's landing time based on previous text conversations and emails. This feature, along with several others, is expected to be delayed until 2025.
By next year, Siri is anticipated to gain the ability to search your devices contextually and perform actions based on those searches. For instance, Siri will be able to pull up a podcast sent by a spouse or access a document emailed by a colleague, all in response to straightforward commands.
Semantic indexing, which enhances Siri's understanding of on-device content and personal data context, will also be postponed until 2025. Additionally, precise device and application controls will be introduced in future iOS 18 versions.
On-screen awareness, enabling Siri to recognize and act on what you are doing on your device, is another feature slated for next year. For example, if you're texting about LeBron James, you could ask Siri, "How many points did he score last night?" and receive an accurate answer.
Support for additional languages and regions through Apple Intelligence is not expected until 2025. The much-anticipated integration with ChatGPT may also miss the initial release but is projected to be ready later in 2024, as suggested by Apple's marketing materials.
Despite the delays, the Siri version set to release this fall will still introduce several new and exciting features.
These include a new interface designed for more natural conversation, improved understanding of user input, even when there are miscommunications, and enhanced knowledge of Apple products. An updated Type to Siri option will allow users to enter queries via text.
The revamped Siri will feature a glowing light that wraps around the screen edges when activated, aiming to create a more engaging user experience. This fall, Siri's design and functionality will be significantly enhanced to offer a more interactive experience.
Apple has ambitious plans to revamp Siri with new AI capabilities, making it more natural, context-aware, and deeply integrated within Apple's ecosystem. This includes the integration of ChatGPT technology, which promises more sophisticated responses and new AI-driven features.
Apple has partnered with OpenAI to enhance Siri's generative AI capabilities, enabling it to handle more complex tasks and provide more advanced responses.
