According to Vinod Hejmadi, the airline's chief financial officer, Air India plans to triple the size of its fleet over the next five years. The carrier won't enter its next major development stage for almost two years, Hejmadi made the remarks on Friday, October 14 at the Aviation Insurance Symposium 2022 in India.
Tata Group-owned Air India will increase its convoy of aircraft by three times in the next five years. Campbell Wilson, chairman and managing director of the airline, said these things on Tuesday.
"Air India will add five wide-body Boeing and 25 Airbus narrow-body plane aircraft to its convoy over the next 15 months," he said. The aircraft to be leased include 21 Airbus A320 Neos, four Airbus A321 Neos, and five Boeing B777-200LRs.
Talking about broken seats and service issues on some wide-bodied aircraft, Wilson said, "I need all business class seats (in wide-bodied aircraft) by the end of this month and all economy class seats next year." Hope to meet you in good condition initially.
He also said that the airline is working on bringing back its grounded planes, procuring spare parts, and changing the interiors of the planes. Wilson said the airline has also doubled the number of people at call centers for a better customer experience.
"Our target is to achieve a 30 percent share in both domestic and international markets in the next five years," he said. The airline currently has a domestic market share of 10% and an international market share of 12%. "The airline is also working on 'reputation restoration' and there is evidence that progress is being made," he said.
