Air India has significantly expanded its premium economy class to cater to the increasing demand for premium travel experiences. Over the past three years, the demand for this segment has doubled, prompting the airline to enhance its services and seating capacity.
As part of this expansion, Air India is offering special premium economy fares starting at just ₹599. This offer is available for a limited time and applies to domestic routes. The pricing of these fares will depend on specific routes and demand fluctuations, ensuring accessibility for a wider range of passengers.
The airline’s new premium economy service is currently available on 39 domestic routes, with a weekly allocation of over 50,000 premium economy seats. Of these, around 34,000 seats are dedicated to high-traffic metro routes such as:
Delhi – Mumbai
Delhi – Bengaluru
Delhi – Hyderabad
Mumbai – Bengaluru
Mumbai – Hyderabad
These routes cater to frequent travelers, corporate professionals, and leisure passengers who seek extra comfort and premium services at an affordable price.
To support the growing demand for premium economy, Air India has retrofitted 27 A320 aircraft, increasing its premium economy seating capacity by 30%. This upgrade will push the airline’s total premium economy capacity to over 65,000 seats per week.
The retrofitted A320s feature brand-new premium seats designed for enhanced passenger comfort. These upgraded aircraft will soon extend premium economy services to short-haul international routes, making them accessible to even more travelers.
Air India’s Premium Economy class offers several advantages over regular economy seats, ensuring a superior in-flight experience. Some of the exclusive benefits include:
Extra Legroom: Passengers enjoy additional space and superior comfort compared to standard economy seats.
Priority Check-in & Boarding: Faster check-in and early boarding privileges for a hassle-free airport experience.
Priority Baggage Handling: Luggage is prioritized for quicker retrieval upon arrival.
Superior Seat Design: Ergonomically designed seating with better recline and headrest support.
Gourmet Meals on Fine Chinaware: Unlike economy meals, premium economy passengers receive hot meals served on fine chinaware, elevating their in-flight dining experience.
To enhance passenger experience further, Air India has introduced ‘Vista Stream’, its new wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) system. Available across its fleet (except A350 and upgraded B777 aircraft), Vista Stream allows passengers to:
Access 1,000+ hours of content directly on their personal devices.
Stream movies, TV shows, music, and more via a seamless Wi-Fi connection.
Enjoy personalized entertainment without the need for seat-back screens.
This feature ensures an immersive entertainment experience, giving passengers more control over their in-flight leisure.
Air India’s expansion of premium economy is just the beginning. With ongoing aircraft retrofits and a growing fleet, the airline plans to:
Introduce premium economy on more domestic and short-haul international routes.
Enhance premium economy offerings with better inflight services.
Increase the number of premium economy seats in response to rising passenger demand.
With these developments, Air India is positioning itself as a leading choice for travelers seeking affordable yet premium air travel experiences.
