Adobe has introduced Project Music GenAI Control, a revolutionary AI tool designed to empower users in crafting and personalizing music without the need for professional audio expertise.
By employing simple text prompts like "happy dance" or "sad jazz," individuals can effortlessly generate music tailored to their preferred style. The tool boasts built-in editing controls, offering users the ability to customize various audio elements, including repeating patterns, tempo, intensity, and overall structure.
Unlike existing tools such as Google's MusicLM and Meta's AudioCraft, which provide limited editing options, Project Music GenAI Control stands out by offering advanced features for more intricate customization. Users no longer need to repeatedly generate audio or resort to separate editing software. Adobe's Senior Research Scientist, Nicholas Bryan, emphasizes the tool's capability to provide "pixel-level control for music."
In contrast to other tools, Project Music GenAI Control allows users to remix sections of music, create repeating loops for backing tracks, and adjust the generated audio based on a reference melody. Adobe positions this tool as a comprehensive solution, akin to Photoshop for music creation and customization.
Project Music GenAI Control elevates user experience by offering additional functionalities:
Remixing and Looping: Users can seamlessly remix sections of existing music and create custom loops for various purposes, such as background tracks or backing music.
Reference Melody Integration: The generated music can be tailored further by incorporating a "reference melody," allowing users to build upon existing musical ideas.
Content Extension: Users can extend existing audio pieces to fit specific needs, such as fixed-length animations or podcast segments.
Developed in collaboration with the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California, Project Music GenAI Control is currently described as an "early-stage" experiment. While Adobe has not specified a timeline for public release, it envisions integrating the tool's features into existing editing tools like Audition and Premiere Pro in the future.
