News Synopsis

Tata Motors has set ambitious plans for the next few years in the passenger vehicle (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) segments.

The company has seen significant growth in its PV business with the launch of new-generation cars such as the Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Punch, Harrier, and Safari.

In parallel, Tata Motors has established itself as a market leader in the four-wheeler EV space with models like the Tiago EV, Nexon EV, and Punch EV driving growth. Now, Tata is gearing up to introduce more electric cars in the coming years, reinforcing its market leader status in the EV segment.

Launch of Four New EVs by FY2026

According to the latest investor presentation, Tata Motors will launch four all-new EVs by FY2026. The first two, Curvv EV and Harrier EV, are slated for release in the current fiscal year.

While exact launch dates have not been disclosed, it is expected that the Curvv coupe electric SUV will debut during the upcoming festive season, with the Harrier EV hitting the roads early next year.

Following these, the Sierra EV and Avinya EV are planned for FY2026. Concepts for all four models have already been showcased at events like the Auto Expo over the past few years.

Tata Motors has confirmed that these upcoming EVs will leverage the Acti.ev and EMA architectures, with Acti.ev underpinning more mass-market EVs and EMA serving as the foundation for premium EVs.

Curvv.ev, Harrier.ev, and Sierra.ev Based on Acti.ev

Previously, Tata Motors revealed that the Curvv and Sierra concepts would include both Internal combustion engine (ICE) and fully-electric powertrains. The Harrier EV, on the other hand, will be a fully electric variant of the already available mid-size SUV ICE model.

The Harrier EV will be built on a significantly re-engineered Omega platform and will use the Acti.ev architecture.

While specific powertrain details remain undisclosed, Tata has confirmed that the Acti.ev architecture will support advanced features such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) capabilities, similar to those in the Punch EV.

Test mules of both Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev have been spotted several times over the past few years, indicating ongoing development. Details about the Sierra EV are still awaited, but it is expected to be based on the Acti.ev platform.

Avinya: A New Brand of Premium EVs

In a recent report by Source, Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, confirmed that Avinya will not be a single model but a new all-electric brand of premium cars and SUVs.

The Avinya range will utilize the modular EMA architecture, which is derived from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Localization of the EMA platform is expected to help Tata keep the Avinya range of EVs competitively priced.

Recently, Tata Motors announced the local assembly of new-generation JLR models such as the Velar, Evoque, and Discovery Sport at a new plant in Tamil Nadu, for which the company has committed an investment of Rs 9,000 crore.

The Avinya range will be built on Tata’s Gen 3 EV architecture, featuring the born-electric EMA skateboard platform.

Conclusion

Tata Motors is poised to significantly expand its EV lineup with the launch of four new electric vehicles by FY2026, including the Curvv EV, Harrier EV, Sierra EV, and the new Avinya brand.

These developments are part of Tata's broader strategy to enhance its position as a leader in the EV market and cater to the diverse needs of customers across different segments.
