News Synopsis

Today on Shaheed Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to great freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru. He said that the passion to sacrifice everything for the motherland will inspire the people of the country for generations. March 23rd is observed as Shaheed Diwas (Martyrs' Day), as today in the year 1931, the three freedom fighters were hanged to death by the British Government in the Lahore conspiracy case. (Tributes to the immortal sons of Mother India, Veer Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru on Martyrs' Day. Their passion to die for the motherland will always inspire the countrymen. Long live India!)” The three Indian revolutionaries were convicted of the murder of deputy police superintendent JP Saunders in 1928. They assassinated Saunders to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. Today, PM Modi will virtually inaugurate Biplobi Bharat Gallery at Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata at 6 PM. Earlier the newly elected government of Punjab declared Bhagat Singh's death anniversary on March 23 as a state holiday.
