News Synopsis

Think about the entities tackling the most important social challenges, such as reducing ocean plastic waste and providing a sustainable food supply for the world's 9 billion population.

Startups have become important participants in addressing the biggest problems facing humanity. Yet, have startups ever had a global platform to present their problems to a larger audience? Has a forum like the G7 or G20 ever given startups the chance to voice their opinions on a global stage? With the launch of Startup20, a new engagement organization under India's G20 Presidency, that is expected to change.

The startup paradigm has disrupted industries, processes, and platforms on a global scale, and the G20 group is rightly focusing on it. Such engagement groups have been established by the G20 in the past to concentrate on particular spheres of economic and social cooperation. For instance, Business 20 (B20) was created in 2010 as the official G20 communication forum for the business sector worldwide. The B20 is one of the G20's most well-known involvement groups, and its main participants are companies and business organisations.

Additional interaction groups were created, including Parliament20 in 2010, Women20 in 2015, and Science20, which brought together the national science academies of the G20 nations, in 2017 under the presidency of Germany. Startup20

Foundation & Alliances, Finance, and Sustainability & Inclusion make up the three dynamic task groups that makeup Startup20. The platform's backbone is the Foundation & Alliances task group, which promotes uniformity and collaboration among all G20 nations. The basis for a genuinely global startup community is laid by standardizing terminology and terminologies used in the startup sector and creating institutional mechanisms to encourage partnerships across startup ecosystems.

The Finance task force, meanwhile, is concerned with startup capital access and finance. To promote the flow of capital between industries, this task force strives to propose/develop cutting-edge funding models and link companies with international investors. With an emphasis on startups operating in areas of global relevance, the objective is to encourage patient capital investment. Also, Startup20 will work to remove obstacles and create new opportunities for startups globally by harmonising investment policies among G20 members.

Using the strength of startups to advance inclusivity and achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) is an aim of the Sustainability & Inclusion task group. Startup20 thinks startups can build a more just and sustainable future and that everyone deserves a place at the table. It aspires to support entrepreneurs through mentorship, networking, and access to financing in order to help achieve common sustainable development goals by promoting international best practices in the startup ecosystem inclusiveness and sustainability. These task groups come together to create a thorough and integrated platform to assist entrepreneurs in all G20 member nations.
