G7 Countries Voiced Their Support For India's G20 Presidency On Monday

On Monday, the G7 countries supported India's G20 presidency and reaffirmed their commitment to a more equitable world.

The leaders of the G7 countries endorsed a sustainable future for everybody in a joint statement issued on Monday.

"Under the German Presidency, we, the G7, together with other international partners, have demonstrated our resolve to jointly address both major systemic challenges and immediate crises of our time. Our commitments and actions pave the way for progress towards an equitable world,"  The G-7 leaders declared in a joint statement.

"As we look to the 2023 G7 Summit in Hiroshima under the Japanese Presidency, and in our support to the Indian G20 Presidency, we stand strong, united and absolutely committed to rebuilding a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future for all,"  the statement continued.

On December 1, India formally assumed the G20 presidency. Prime Minister Modi stated that India will work to promote oneness further, inspired by the theme of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future,' and highlighted terror, climate change, and pandemic as the greatest challenges that can be best faced jointly.

India's G20 priorities would be defined in consultation with not only our G20 partners, but also our fellow travellers in the global South, whose voices are frequently unheard, Modi stated in an article published in many newspapers and posted on his website.

According to him, India's G20 agenda will be inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented, and decisive.

The next G20 Leaders' Summit at the Heads of State/Government level is set for September 9 and 10 in New Delhi.

The G20, also known as the Group of 20, is an intergovernmental forum comprised of the world's major industrialised and developing economies.

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union are all members.

They account for more than 80% of global GDP, 75% of international trade, and two-thirds of the world's population.

On Monday, Group of Seven leaders emphasised the progress of their cooperation under Germany's Presidency to collectively confront global challenges at a time of acute geopolitical crises and key moment for the global economy. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined the group.
