America And China Now Compete To Get Ahead In 6G Technology
News Synopsis
Most of the world is yet to experience the benefits of a 5G network, but the geopolitical race for the next big thing in telecommunications technology is already heating up.
While efforts are underway to introduce 5G networks to the rest of the world, the race between the US and China to take the lead in 6G has begun. It is understood that the use of 6G will dramatically change the capacity of war equipment.
London-based think tank International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) said in a report released in August that China is preparing to use 6G technology for military purposes. For this, it is following the decision-making process through a centralized command model. The US, on the other hand, is pursuing a strategy to enable command and operation procedures at lower levels.
IISS has said that 6G technology will play an important role in China's hypersonic weapons program. This technology will solve the problem of the communication barrier currently being faced at hypersonic speed.
Earlier, the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post reported in a report that Chinese researchers have made 6G laser equipment. These devices are capable of penetrating the plasma layer that intercepts signals during hypersonic warfare. It was told in that report that these devices will also be helpful in detecting stealth-hit aircraft and high-speed space communication.
However, by involving its allies, America is attempting to acquire the ability to process 6G data. The IISS report said that the US sees 6G as a technology that will help maintain a military edge. Along with this, it will also have an important contribution to the general development works. The US has engaged industry, government agencies, and its international partners in the 6G development program.
According to experts, in this context, the relationship between America and South Korea is considered very important. South Korean company Samsung has ten times more 5G patents than the ten companies after that, according to technology sector watch agency ID Tech EX. This company is now investing heavily in 6G as well.
IISS has said that all departments and companies involved in the development of 6G in China have been placed under the direct control of the government under the centralized model. This helps in coordinating all the efforts. It has been said in this report that due to this method, China has become a major power in the field of telecommunications today, while its status was negligible in the 1980s. China took the lead in developing 5G and has given it a strong base for 6G.
